Accra, Ghana – YOTA is proud to announce the selection of Nelson Asusiya, a member of the Voices of Youth Coalition, who was nominated by YOTA to serve on the ECOWAS Youth Election Observation Mission for the Côte d’Ivoire presidential elections on October 25, 2025.
This mission is part of the ECOWAS Commission’s initiative to mainstream youth participation in democratic governance across West Africa. Supported financially and technically by the European Union under the ECOWAS Peace, Security, and Governance project commissioned and co-financed by the Government of Germany and the EU, the program will train and deploy young people as election observers. The observers will monitor, report, and share youth perspectives on electoral processes in the region.
Nelson Asusiya is an award-winning youth activist, policy researcher, writer, inclusion advocate, and thought leader. He currently serves as the Minority Leader of the Techiman Youth Parliament, Majority Chief Whip of the Bono Regional Youth Parliament, and a Global Youth Ambassador for Theirworld (UK). His leadership through youth-led platforms has impacted over 120 schools, trained more than 2,500 young people, and supported over 50 persons with disabilities.
As a contributor to YOTA’s flagship research, the Ghana Youth Barometer 2024, and a vocal advocate for inclusive governance, Nelson has championed youth perspectives in the implementation of Ghana’s Affirmative Action Bill through the Parliamentary Network Africa.
During the mission in Côte d’Ivoire, Nelson will join other young leaders from across the ECOWAS subregion to observe and assess the conduct of the elections, promote transparency, and contribute to a fair and credible electoral process. His deployment reflects YOTA’s ongoing commitment to building youth capacity for governance, peacebuilding, and democratic participation in Africa.
YOTA extends its heartfelt congratulations to Nelson Asusiya and reaffirms its commitment to empowering young people to drive systems change, foster peace, and advance sustainable development across Africa.
